The Super Tacks AS3 features several technologies that are found on the top of the line AS3 Pro, including a performance-minded one-piece boot design.
Staying consistent with the prior generation, the Super Tacks line remains CCM’s medium fit design. Finding the right skate for you means finding the model that fits your foot best. If you’re unsure, or you’re looking for the most accurate measurement you can get, visit your local Pure Hockey. The Super Tacks AS3 is an anatomical, form-fitting 360 degree fit around the forefoot, heel and ankle.
CCM’s MonoFrame boot construction is all about performance. The one-piece build is engineered to put players in direct contact with the ice for a more direct energy transfer and a closer fitting boot. This is achieved by eliminating a glued and nailed bottom piece. Instead, RFM composite, a lightweight material wraps underneath the boot. This allows energy to flow seamlessly through the skate. The RFM material is slightly heavier and a bit less stiff than the Carbon Composite material used on the AS3 Pro, but it still high performing.
Inside the boot, CCM has included their Total-Dri liner to wick away unvented moisture from the foot for a soft, dry, comfortable feel. The liner’s textures help lock the foot in place when it’s sweaty, for power maintenance and foot stability. And for skaters who wear their shin guards beneath the skate’s tongue, DuraZone patches help reduce liner wear. In the ankle pockets, CCM has added areas of multi-density memory foam. The symmetrical foam pads wrap anatomically around the foot to give you a custom fit and feel.
For a tongue, CCM used its asymmetrical TriTech Flex with a special molded lace-bite protection design. This 7mm asymmetrical tongue molds to the foot and lower ankle for a great fit and protection against that frustrating, nagging lace-bight that never seems to go away. In the footbed, CCM has carried down their OrthoLite UltraLite technology for superior comfort and a light weight feel.
The Speedblade XS Holder is CCM’s quick-release blade holder system and this is the same design that is found on the top of the line AS3 Pro. This spring-loaded system makes it easy to change out your runners in seconds. It works by using a positive-lock mechanism to tightly secure the blade to the holder. Once it’s time to replace the blade, all you have to do is roll the BladeLock dial until you feel resistance, pop the blade out, place your new blade in the holder, and turn back the dial. Speaking of blades, the XS Stainless provides a long-lasting edge for long term performance.
CCM has continued to improve upon the previous generation of Super Tacks and in the second price point, AS3 still offers plenty of pro-level features. If you are an elite player looking for a high performing anatomical medium fit skate, the CCM Super Tacks AS3 is a valuable option.
